How do I start racing?

This is what you do:

  1. Phone up any one of the committee members and say 'I want to start racing, I've been to the website are there any good bikes for sale'. The committee member will tell you what bikes are for sale and you can then begin to plan to go racing. It will cost you a minimum of $200 per meeting to come racing on top of the cost of your bike - that's what it costs. If you can afford that then you are in!
  2. You then must join the Post Classic Racing Club of NSW in order to race. Membership costs $55.00
  3. Check out the race calendar on this site and go back to the Post Classic Racing Club of NSW page and download an entry form
  4. Fill it in and send it off with the entry fee (about $150 per meeting)
  5. Read all of the rules and regulations about going racing - an Adobe Acrobat copy can be downloaded from the MNSW website
  6. Make sure that you have a set of race leathers that are in good condition. If they are a two piece, ensure that the two halves zip together. Get a good set of riding gloves, race boots, a back protector and a helmet - It's you that has to go home on Sunday night in good condition, not the bike
  7. Phone up the committee member that you first phoned and say "I've joined the PCRA and entered the next meeting" he will chat to you about preparing your bike for scruitineering and answer any other questions that you might have
  8. Go to your workshop and get your bike ready
  9. Arrange to meet your new found BRA Committee member friend on race day and he will help you through the process of bike checking, signing on, getting to the rider's briefing and getting out on the track
  10. At the meet you will need to buy a DAY LICENSE. This costs $50 for the day and is a good thing to do for your first meet.
  11. After that apply for a MNSW competition license
  12. Meet your new Committee Member friend at the track at about 7.30 am and he will guide you through the process of doing your first event
  13. Attend the riders briefing and collect an orange vest. Yes you will feel like a Goose, but other riders will know that you are new to the sport and not put crushingly heavy overtaking moves on you
  14. Get out there and ride the track have a gentle practise session and some introductory races
  15. Have fun. Yes we do race but it's a bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon, not a world championship So, this is how you go racing. Once you start it will be hard to stop. And although any form of racing is expensive, we do it as cheaply as possible Now, there is absolutely no need to spend $20 on joining the BRA. But after all the help that you've been given by the BRA in getting started coughing up $20 for BRA membership is the least that you can do By the way, you also get 6 newsletters delivered to your door each year, so you keep up to date and in the swim
